Your summit bag
Mountain gears
Alpinisme gears : crampons, ice axe, climbing harness, rope, avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel and probe), ice screws, lanyard, carabiners, etc. because falling into a crevasse is not fun.
Warm clothes : Down jacket, Gore-tex shell, gloves, neck gaiter, beanie, thermal base layer, etc. so you’re ready to face the elements.
Water + food supplies : human body doesn’t run with only happiness, drinking and snacking are essential to make it to the end and to cope with altitude and cold.
Small first-aid kit + emergency blanket: bandages, medication… anything you might need in case of a minor injury before the helicopter becomes necessary.
Charged phone + headlamp: so you can contact the rescue services or the hut if you run into trouble, and to find your way if night falls sooner than expected.
Let someone know your plans: so they know where to send help if you decide to become an alpine hermit.
For a night over at the hut
Sleeping bag liner: a matter of hygiene- no running water, no washing machine. So no… sheets are therefore not changed every day!
Spare clothes: during climbs, despite the cold, you sweat.. and there’s nothing more unpleasant than staying in a damp t-shirt all evening.
Headlamp: useful to avoid stepping on your sleeping neighbour’s backpack, or in case of a power cut.
Charger + power bank: power sockets are available; however, depending of the weather, electricity may be cut- from a few minutes to several hours or even the entire night – meaning you won’t be able to recharge your devices.
Toiletry kit: because even in altitude, feeling fresh still matters.
(quick reminder : very limited access to water, no shower up here)
Earplugs: to survive your neighbour’s snoring.
